July Wrap Up

So I was a really, really crappy blogger in July. I just had too much stuff going on. People were in town, it was my birthday, there was a wedding and a trip to Columbus. But I suppose I can take the time to write up the good, the bad and the ugly from July. It's August tomorrow. That means summer is more than half over and I think that sucks. But that also means I have trips to Phoenix, Seattle and New Orleans coming up. Yay!

Top 5 Days: 11, 12, 19, 24, 26

Top 5 Songs:

1. Secret: OMD

This song was on my birthday play list and I've had it in my head ever since. Especially the opening line. Sing it with me, "secret..."

2. Evil Urges: My Morning Jacket

Love this band and love the new album!

3. Maybe Tonight, Maybe Tomorrow: Wide Awake

Theme song for LIVESTRONG!

4. Electric Feel: MGMT

I love this song because it's so different than anything else that's out right now.

5. Oxford Comma: Vampire Weekend

This album is quickly becoming one of my favorites. Check it out!

PS: My tonsils are hurting again and I'm living on popsicles. I'm off to the doctor in the morning. Cross your fingers she doesn't tell me I need a tonsillectomy.

LIVESTRONG!

I just returned home from the Lance Armstrong Foundation's LIVESTRONG Summit in Columbus, Ohio. It was awesome!! I actually went for work, but I got so much out of it on a personal level. It was so inspirational to meet survivors and see grassroots efforts in action. I made some great friends, learned a lot about political processes and I have taken upon myself to make cancer a national priority this year. With the upcoming presidential election, it is so important to make cancer an issue that cannot be ignored. Cancer affects everyone. It does not discriminate and it does not have a political party.

One of the most poignant parts of the Summit was watching this video from Jack. Be sure to have your kleenex handy. Later I met Jack's mom, Jennifer, who has done fundraising and advocacy work in Iowa. He's an amazing kid!

No, I didn't get to meet Lance, but I did get a couple of pictures of him.

This is the exact same picture as the one above, except it was taken by Lance's paparazzi from the other side of the room. You can only see my blonde head on the other side of the room. You can see all the paparazzi pictures on the LIVESTRONG blog

Here are some the great people I met!

We even saw Vanilla Ice at a bar on Saturday night! Notice the LIVESTRONG bracelet he has on. Life doesn't get any better!

Bills, Bills, Bills

I got this e-mail today about an automatic payment on one of my student loans. Pay close attention to the payment amount.

The following automatic payment has been scheduled:

Biller: Sallie Mae
Payment Date: 08/14/2008
Payment Amount: $254,385.00

Now, do you think that I would have student loans if I could pay $254,385 at a time?? Obviously, a typo...I need to pay 254.85. It just made me smile.

PS: My birthday was fabulous and I have a TON of pictures to post, but it will have to wait for later. Still too much craziness going on. Thank you for your patience.

I'm a mess

Yeah, so the title of my last blog should be "I am lame!" What the hell was I writing? Apparently I went back in time because I was writing like a 13 year old. Hot boys? Hot boys writing blogs? Lame. Next thing you know I'll be throwing out words like rad and super psyched. How embarrassing for me. But at least I can laugh at myself right?

Things to do before I turn 30:

  • Stop drunk texting/e-mailing/blogging (this might take more than 2 days)
  • Take new camera out of the box
  • Try not to break new camera before birthday party
  • Go dancing at Sound on Friday night
  • Finalize music list for birthday party
  • Leave the boys alone, they're nothing but trouble
  • Pick Jed up from the airport

Boys are lame...

I really hate it when people have better blogs than I do. Seriously lame. I especially hate it when hot boys I used to like have better blogs than I do. Not cool. Right now it seems like all the hot boys I like don't even write blogs. But one from the past does.  Why do I let that bother me? I don't even talk to this hot boy anymore, although I would like to. Water under the bridge I suppose? Boys are stupid. I want what I can't have...

Blog schmog

Wow, it's been a long time since I've written anything. July has just been so-so thus far. For some reason I let a tiny stupid thing send me into an emotional tailspin on Wednesday and I was in a bad mood for like 5 days straight. I'm starting to feel better, but I'm not totally recovered. It doesn't help that I broke my camera on July 4 so I don't even have any pictures to post. But here's my most recent photobooth pic I took on Saturday night.

They say that de-cluttering your house can help to de-clutter your mind. So I've spent the evening cleaning up my house, throwing useless old stuff away, defrosting the freezer. It's helped a little bit. It also helps to know that Jed and Sarah will be here on Friday and I can't wait to see them!! Also my favorite holiday is coming up on Saturday: my birthday!! It just so happens that I will be turning 30 this year and I'm having a huge party. It's definitely something worth celebrating.

That's about all that's worth talking about tonight. Except I do want to give a little shout out to Allen because he starts his new job tomorrow morning.  Good luck Allen!!
